You cannot maintain cleanliness using dirty tools.

In all of the times, no time is better than now to up your hair game. In these quarantine days where we are all skipping the shampoo and rocking the messy buns a little too often, check out what you’re working with and make sure it isn’t adding a problem.

Being a professional hairstylist, I more than ever, cringe at the sight of people’s hairbrushes and irons in their bathrooms when I use the loo. Not just hair gets trapped in those bristles. Dust, dirt, environmental debris, and even oil from your scalp latches on.

Like, would you use a dirty fork to eat with?!? Exactly.

Thank goodness things can be cleaned and sanitized, eh?!

Below are some tips of maintaining the health and cleanliness of your tools and ultimately that hair.

  • remove hair debris from brushes and combs after each use
  • soak used hair tools in a plastic container with cleaning solution diluted with water (read the instructions on the back of whatever cleaner you use.)
  • designate separate hair tools for each person in your house; no sharing
  • while still warm but turned off, wipe hot tools with a moist rag to remove buildup and residue
  • wash your hands before styling your hair and after while you’re at it

We can’t be too safe when it comes to keeping our environments clean.
