full days of fulfilling conversations and change in my pocket to immediately nothing at all.

Ripped from behind the chair

I am the very first to admit that I have struggled with getting burnt out behind the chair. The big difference of choosing to slow down for mental health versus being told you cannot work and do the one thing you are skilled to do are on completely different planes..

Sometimes it takes 10 years to get to that 1 year that changes your life… Any bets that it’ll be this year?

Spiritual Warriors

I seriously had never realized just how much of an extrovert I am. I always thought I was a good stylist because I understand the color wheel and how to hold correct tensions with varying hair textures. Turns out, that’s not it all. I’m a good stylist because I love people, I love to hear their stories while sharing mine. I love to find what makes people tick. I love to see a guest in my chair transform into a butterfly in literally an hour or two. It is true magic.

This quarantine is most definitely teaching lessons, and a lot to us beauty professionals. Yes, my bank account is in the negative, yes, I’m accepting grocery store gift cards from my parents, and yes, I am trying to find any and all of the things to fill this enormous hole that has formed due to COVID-19. Most of all, I miss talking. I miss learning and essentially giving and getting therapy five days a week.

Us unemployed hairstylists during this time must:

  1. remain creative
  2. style our hair (some days)
  3. keep our guests engaged via social media
  4. use free time to educate ourselves
  5. remember it will get better
